Pierre Guariche

The iconic French designer and interior architect Pierre Guariche was one of the most influential designers of innovative lighting solutions in the 1950s. His work was characterised by functionality, modern materials and industrial production, combined with a desire to create elegant and accessible designs for the modern home.

Pierre Guariche played an important role in the development of the French design scene after the Second World War. He worked to create furniture and lighting suited to new ways of living, with a focus on combining aesthetics and comfort. His designs are often characterised by clean lines, geometric shapes and innovative materials.

Guariche opened his first design studio in Paris at the age of 25, where he developed both furniture and lighting. His designs were produced by, among others, Airborne, Steiner and Pierre Disderot and have since become recognised as icons of French mid-century design. In 1954, he founded ARP – Atelier de Recherches Plastiques – together with Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, with a focus on functional, aesthetic and affordable design.

Today, Sammode has relaunched a collection of Guariche’s iconic designs. The original shapes have been preserved, while modern technology has been integrated to meet contemporary needs. The result is lighting that continues Guariche’s design legacy while working seamlessly in modern interiors.
