In the beginning, there was light
History
The story of Møller & Rothe dates back to 1936 in Sweden, where Thyge Rothe and Niels A. Møller founded the company – hence the name Møller & Rothe.
At that time, Møller & Rothe was engaged in the trade of textiles, capsule machines, and grain mills. Over time, the company evolved to sell art industrial items, then furniture, and eventually lighting.
In 1993, Møller & Rothe began importing Italian lamps, which were sold in Denmark and later throughout Scandinavia, as well as in several projects in England, Spain, Switzerland, and Italy. Since then, the company has steadily grown and now represents several agencies, including Giopato & Coombes, Faustlight, ONE A, Delta Light, J. Adams & Co, Il Fanale, and more.
The Gelbjerg-Hansen family has been part of the company since 1944, and today Møller & Rothe is owned by CEO Jan Gelbjerg-Hansen.
With more than 25 years of experience, we are one of Denmark’s leading lighting companies, developing innovative and customized lighting design in collaboration with architecture and space.
